About Us
Since NWVAC resumed operations in February 2006, it has reestablished itself as a premier ambulance service. Following are some of NWVAC's recent noteworthy achievements:
NWVAC is the first volunteer ambulance service in the Hudson Valley to go wireless! Pre-hospital care reports are now transmitted directly to the hospital and the Department of Health. Patient information is saved on a secure server. Additionally, the laptops we carry provide reference information for certain medical emergencies.
NWVAC has applied to the Hudson Valley Regional EMS Council to upgrade its status to paramedic agency. NWVAC expects to have approval in the fall of 2008. This would make NWVAC one of two paramedic agencies in Orange County. At the paramedic level, NWVAC will no longer need to rely on commercial paramedic services for assistance on certain calls.
Over 15 NWVAC members are currently enrolled in an EMT-Intermediate course. This advanced life support class will further enhance the services we can offer our residents.
In 2007, NWVAC responded to over 2200 calls for assistance with an average response time of less than six minutes.
NWVAC members can now administer Aspirin to a patient who may be having a heart attack. This is in addition to the Albuterol and Epinephrine that NWVAC already carries.
In 2007, NWVAC became the first ambulance corps to carry carboxy hemoglobin meters. These units can detect the amount of carbon monoxide a patient has been exposed to. Based on that reading, proper care can be administered to the patient.
In 2007, NWVAC started a Special Operations Team. Learn more...
